However, like any software, it can encounter errors that may disrupt the productivity and efficiency of its users.

These errors can range from minor glitches to critical issues that require immediate attention. Fortunately, most Microsoft Teams errors can be fixed with some simple troubleshooting techniques. In this article, we will explore some common Microsoft Teams errors and provide step-by-step instructions on how to fix them.

1. Check Your Internet

To keep your email accounts in sync, Microsoft Teams depends on your phone’s internet connection. Therefore, if your phone’s internet connection stops working, the Teams app on Android will also stop functioning, preventing you from sending or receiving emails through the app. Switch off the mobile data and turn it back again if you are using it.

And if you are connected to the WiFi, then try to open Google.com in a web browser. If it is not opening, then first switch off the WiFi on the phone and then turn it back on. When even that is not working, restart the router for any issues.

2. Check App Permissions

Checking app permissions in Microsoft Teams is important to ensure that the app has the necessary access to features and data to function properly. Reviewing and managing app permissions may help to resolve issues with the app not working correctly and improve the security of your Teams account.

  1. Long-press on the Microsoft Team’s icon and then head to the App Info icon.

  2. Head to the Permissions section from the App info.

  3. Give permission to every component by manually turning it on for each one.

  4. Then check if Microsoft Teams is working properly.

3. Clear Temporary Files from the Teams App

When you have been using Microsoft Teams for a long time, it will gather a lot of data, especially temporary files. They can become corrupt and may result in slower performance or prevent you from using certain features.

  1. Tap on the profile picture in the Teams app.

  2. Then go to Settings from the sidebar, which opens up from the left.

  3. Head to Data and Storage from the general section.

  4. Scroll down and tap Clear temporary files.
fix teams android not working 7
  5. A prompt will appear confirming that the files have been cleared.
fix teams android not working 8

After that restart the app and see if the issues have been fixed.

4. Disable Battery Optimization

Smartphones use a lot of battery power for managing everything. Android has a battery usage feature to enhance battery life by restricting how apps consume power when running in the background.

You can disable battery optimization for Microsoft Teams and see if fixes the underlying problems.

  1. Long-press the Microsoft Teams icon and head to the App info through the shortcut.

  2. Scroll down and go to Battery.
    fix teams android not working
  3. Set the battery to unrestricted. Some phones will have unoptimized instead of unrestricted.

  4. Restart the app and check if the problems are solved.

5. Disable Reduce Data Usage

Microsoft Teams has a data feature that is designed to work on slower as well as capped internet connections. This may reduce the quality of video and audio calls of your meetings. But the good news is that it can be disabled.

  1. Tap on your profile picture in the Microsoft Teams app
    fix teams android not working
  2. Select settings from the sidebar.
    fix teams android not working
  3. Go to Data and storage from the General section.
    fix teams android not working
  4. Then tap on Reduce data usage
    fix teams android not working
  5. Select Never and the check symbol will appear next to it.
    fix teams android not working
  6. After that head back and attend video meetings in a regular fashion. This should fix any issue pertaining to video quality.

However, if this does not fix the issues with video meetings then perhaps you should check the internet speed.

6. Uninstall Microsoft Authenticator App

Microsoft authenticator can throw in errors that will prevent you from logging into the Teams app. That is what a user found in the Microsoft forum so they uninstalled it and that fixed the problem for a number of people. Here is how you can remove the authenticator app.

  1. Long-press the Microsoft Teams icon, and then tap Uninstall.
    fix teams android not working
  2. Then click OK to confirm uninstallation through the prompt.
    fix teams android not working

7. Reset the App Database

Microsoft Teams stores a lot of information in its database on your device for a variety of purposes. It may get corrupted over time and a reset can fix the issue. Here is how it is done.

  1. Head to Data Storage from the Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the storage section and tap Reset database.
    fix teams android not working
  3. It will be completed in a couple of seconds and then you will land on the Team’s home screen. Then check if the issue has been resolved.

8. Reinstall Microsoft Teams

When nothing else works, it might be time to uninstall and then install Teams back again. Install it from the Play Store and then observe if that has solved the problem.

If that is also not solving the issue, then you might want to try installing Microsoft Teams on a different phone. That can help you check if there is an issue with the phone.

Make Teams Great Again

You can fix Microsoft Teams by following the methods we have discussed here. If you cannot solve it after applying all the techniques, then there can be an issue with the phone/tablet.

How to set up IFTTT on Microsoft Teams in 6 easy steps https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/how-to-set-up-ifttt-on-microsoft-teams/ Thu, 26 Jan 2023 17:07:58 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=299427 IFTTT (If This Then That) is a service that enables users to create simple conditional statements, called applets, that trigger actions based on events. You can use IFTTT to automate tasks and connect different services and devices together. Microsoft Teams is a collaboration platform allowing users to communicate and work together.

With the IFTTT on Microsoft Teams integration, you can set up applets that trigger actions in Teams based on events from other services such as weather, social media, and more.

IFTTT on Microsoft Teams

To do this, you will need to create an IFTTT account and then set up “applets” (IFTTT’s name for its automation recipes) that connect Microsoft Teams (or another service) to the other apps and services you want to use.

  1. Go to the IFTTT website (ifttt.com) and create an account if you don’t already have one.
  2. Once you’re logged in, click the Create button to create a new IFTTT applet. Alternatively, you can find the applet (or service) you want to use by typing in the search box or picking one of the IFTTT on Microsoft Teams applets already provided.ifttt on microsoft teams
  3. In the “If This” section, click the Add button to add a trigger. ifttt on microsoft teams
  4. Search for and find the trigger you want to use with IFTTT on Microsoft Teams. For example, you could use the “Weather” service to set the trigger to send the daily forecast weather report. Fill in the details for the trigger and click Create trigger to create the trigger. ifttt on microsoft teams
  5. In the “Then That” section, click the Add button to choose the action you want to take. For this example, and pick the Microsoft Teams service, configure the Teams action you want to take, or suggest a new one, then click Create action when you are finished. ifttt on microsoft teams
  6. Customize the settings for the Microsoft Teams applet and give it a name, then click the Finish button to create it.

That’s it! Your applet is now set up and will run automatically in the background, triggering the event you specified whenever the conditions are met.

At the time of this guide, there are no IFTTT triggers available for Microsoft Teams. However, there are plenty of Teams triggers available to use in Power Automate.

If you want to customize the settings of your applet, you can go back to the “My Applets” tab in the top menu and select the applet you just created. From there, you can edit the settings, turn the applet on or off, or delete it entirely.

How to create or join a Teams meeting on an Android device https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/how-to-create-or-join-a-teams-meeting-on-an-android-device/ Tue, 04 Oct 2022 14:47:04 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=282726 Read more]]> So you’ve used Microsoft Teams on your PC and are now looking to set up the app on your Android device as well. Interestingly, even though the general methods of doing it remain the same, the specifics of how to do it will differ.

In this article, we’ll cover everything from creating and joining a Teams meeting on your Android smartphone. So let’s jump right in.

How to create a Teams meeting on Android Smartphone

Before we begin, we assume you’ve downloaded and installed Microsoft Teams on your Android beforehand; however, if you haven’t, you can check out our linked article from above.

After you’ve logged into your Teams account, let’s first look at how you can create a Teams meeting from the ground up. By default whenever you log into your Teams account, you’ll be taken to the Activity tab. From there, click on the More tab (the three dots icon) and select Calendar.

teams more option

Now, on the Calendar menu, click on the plus button to create a new Teams meeting. In the New event section, you can then set and modify the specifics of your Teams meeting. For instance, you can then select the event name, add in new participants, choose specific dates and timings, and at the same time, set up the Location and Description for your meeting.

creating a new meeting

When you’ve done everything, click on the tick at the top-right corner above. That’s it; the app will fix your meeting for the allotted date or time.

Of course, you can later tweak your schedule if you so desire. Head to the meeting date, tap on the meeting and click on Edit. Now, after you’ve made your changes click on the tick icon from the top again.

Your settings will be saved.

You’ll also see features like Forward and Metting options. For example, clicking on Forward lets you add new members to your meeting. By clicking on Meeting options, on the other hand, you’ll be able to manage the details of your meeting; things like who presents the meeting, setting up co-organizers, managing the restrictions for attendees, and so on.

Alternatively, you can also cancel the meeting altogether. To do that, click on Cancel event and confirm the deletion by clicking on Cancel event once again.

Joining a new meeting

So above we’d discussed how you can set up a new meeting. But now let’s look at how you can join a pre-existing Teams meeting through your Android.

To join a Teams meeting on Android, you must have the invitation link beforehand. When you click on this link, the Teams app will be launched, taking you to the meeting. To get in, simply click on JOIN MEETING.

Teams will then ask your permission to record your audio. Click on Only this time to proceed ahead. You’ll have to wait in the “lobby” until someone lets you into the meeting.

Once you’re in, you can manage your camera and audio settings. Also, if you have permission from the host, you can also add in new participants. After you’ve finished the meeting, click on the big, red hang-up button on the side, and you’ll be instantly out of the meeting.

One such shift was the rise of online communication tools in the midst of the work-from-home phenomenon. This has resulted in a massive uptick in new subscriptions for Teams, Microsoft’s flagship online communications app. For the stats nerds, the app now boasts 270 million regular users, up from the 22 million users it had in 2019.

With this huge rise in demand, the app naturally tries to be cross-compatibility, and therefore, is available on various operating systems. In this article, we focus our effort on how you can install and set up the Teams app on your Android device. So, let’s get started.

How to install and set up the Teams app on Android

Like most apps on Android, you can find the android version of the Teams app on the Google PlayStore. Here’s how:

  1. Head to the PlayStore, type in ‘teams’ in the search bar above, and select the search option on your keyboard.
  2. You’ll get taken to a new page. From here, click on Install to begin the download. The app will be downloaded and installed in a few seconds.
  3. As soon as the download gets finished, click on Open. The app will start booting up; give it a few minutes to complete the installation.

You’ll then have to type in your login credentials—your Teams email and password, basically. After that, you might have to wait a few seconds while the app signs you in.

From the next screen, click on Next after you’re signed in. The app will then try to confirm some privacy settings; click on Got it to finalize. Do this, and you’ll be finally taken to the main menu of your Teams app, set to the Activity tab by default.

From here, switch the tab, and you’ll be able to do everything you can on a Teams account on your PC—be it chatting with a team member or glossing over the different channels.

However, if you don’t have a Teams account, the Android app will let you create one from there. Let’s see how.

Creating a new account on the Teams Android app

First, click on the No account? Create one for free button. Then select the type of account you’d like to create: Personal or Business.

On the next screen, type in your Microsoft email address, or create an account using your phone number by clicking on Use a phone number instead. Click on Next.

Type in the relevant phone number, enter the four-digit confirmation code sent to your phone and follow the instructions onscreen. Your new account will be created.

Click on Get Started to go ahead with the Teams app, and you’ll be able to use it on your Android device from here on.

How to disable LinkedIn integration on Teams and Microsoft 365 https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/how-to-disable-linkedin-integration/ Mon, 29 Aug 2022 18:25:15 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=278319 This Teams guide will show you how to enable and disable LinkedIn integration in Teams and Microsoft 365. This feature quietly rolled out in March 2022. When the feature is rolled out to your organization, it is enabled by default.

If enabled, LinkedIn integration allows users to connect their Microsoft account to their LinkedIn account so they can connect with LinkedIn profile connections in Teams and other Microsoft apps like Outlook.

Unfortunately, the LinkedIn tabs in Outlook and Teams cannot be disabled. However, one enterprising redditor found a way for administrators to disable it.

Microsoft Azure AD (Active Directory) administrators can disable the ability for users to be able to connect their Microsoft and LinkedIn profiles.

Disable LinkedIn integration

Please note: If you don’t have administrator privileges, you will not be able to disable LinkedIn integration on Teams and Microsoft 365! If you need extra help, there is a YouTube video explaining what to do.

If you are an administrator, here’s what you need to do to disable LinkedIn integration from Teams and Microsoft Office 365.

1. Log into the Azure AD admin center with an account that’s a global administrator for your organization.
2. Select Users.
3. On the Users page, select User settings.
4. Under LinkedIn account connections, allow users to connect their accounts to access their LinkedIn connections within some Microsoft apps.

4a. Choose Yes to enable the LinkedIn integration service for all users in your organization.

4b. Choose Selected group to enable the service for only a group of selected users in your organization.

4c. Choose No to withdraw consent from all users in your organization.

5. Click Save to save your settings when finished.

You can see what data is collected between Microsoft and LinkedIn accounts and profiles when the feature is enabled.

How to invite someone to a Teams Meeting https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/invite-someone-to-a-teams-meeting/ Tue, 14 Jun 2022 16:17:27 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=263913 Read more]]> Microsoft Teams has emerged out as one of the most popular team collaboration app in the global communication tools market. Effective video meetings, quality collaborations, user chat options, Teams offers it all.

If you’re a regular Teams user, sooner or later, you’re going to have to invite people to your Teams meetings. In what follows, we’ll discuss how exactly you can do that. So let’s get started.

How to invite someone to a Teams meetings

On the Microsoft Teams app, there are two ways you can invite someone to a Teams meeting. First, when you’re inside a meeting, and second, when you’re yet to start a meeting but would like to add people beforehand. Here’s how you can get started.

Invite someone during a meeting

When you’re in a meeting, click on the Show participants to see the people who were sent an invitation but who haven’t joined in yet. Then, to invite them in to join, click on Request to join. That’s it. Do this, and you’ll be able to add new folks while your meeting is going on.

In contrast, to invite new people to your meeting—people that you hadn’t added earlier—you can look them up by their names or email addresses, and then send an invite.

Invite someone before a meeting

But if you’re looking to add someone to your meeting beforehand, then you’ll be taking a different approach. Here’s how.

To add someone to your Teams meeting beforehand, click on the Add required attendees or Add optional attendees option. This will let you search and invite people to your meeting.

If you need help in setting up the Teams meeting itself, then give our guide on creating Teams meeting a go.

Inviting someone to a Teams Meeting

So that’s about it, folks. Inviting someone to a Teams meeting doesn’t have to be complicated. And thanks to the Teams developers, it isn’t. We hope this article helps in your goals.

How to hide your email address in Chat from Microsoft Teams on Windows 11 https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/hide-your-email-in-chat-from-microsoft-teams/ Thu, 31 Mar 2022 17:48:52 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=258424 Read more]]> In Microsoft Teams, changing privacy settings like the ability to hide your email, are always the first thing you should configure. Hiding contact information, including email addresses and phone numbers so people that know me and don’t know me can’t find me as easily. When Microsoft announced Chat from Microsoft Teams on Windows 11, I immediately started looking for ways to remove the newly announced app from my PC before I could ever install it.

The last thing I needed (or wanted) was my family and my boss messaging me on Teams. Microsoft does disclose what the company does with your data and privacy settings in Teams. But the Chat app is an app I didn’t ask for, but Microsoft installs it by default anyways.

This guide focuses on making it harder for people to find you on the Chat app from Microsoft Teams on Windows 11. These settings are not available in the Microsoft Teams desktop app for work or school. Here’s what to do.

Hide your email from Chat

1. Open Microsoft Teams
2. Click the three-dot menu (see arrow), then click ⚙ Settings
hide your email
3. Click Privacy, click How others can find you and then click Edit contact information
hide your email
4. Click to toggle your email(s) and/or phone number (s) that you want to remove
5. Click Confirm to confirm that you want to Hide the contact information that you selected from search
hide your email

By disabling your contact details, your Chat from Microsoft Teams profile will not show up in search results for people who you have never chatted with you in Teams.

The only issue is that people can still find you if you have other Microsoft accounts and Teams profiles. Here’s what you can do to fix that in Chat from Microsoft Teams

1. Go to Your profile and click Manage profile
2. Change the drop down menu next to the email(s) and phone number(s) you want to Hide
hide your email3. Click Hide my email to confirm your changes to your primary Microsoft account email address

Of course, you could also choose to make changes to your Microsoft account to lock down what information that you share online publicly.

How to update your Microsoft Teams status using Power Automate https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/microsoft-teams-status-on-power-automate/ https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/microsoft-teams-status-on-power-automate/#disqus_thread Thu, 10 Mar 2022 18:23:04 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=254939&preview=true&preview_id=254939 The ability to set your Microsoft Teams status automatically can help break up your workday so you don’t feel chained to your PC as you work from home. Of course, you can always go into Microsoft Teams to manually change your status, but wouldn’t it be better to have the ability to change your Microsoft Teams status without ever opening the app?

Built for Microsoft 365, using Power Automate saves time by streamlining tasks and workflows through automation. No need to worry if you’ve never created or automated a workflow, or “flow,” as there are many popular app templates available.

Set your status

This guide is based on a guide by Damien Bird, a Microsoft MVP who created a post on how to perform a Teams Status Update via Power Automate. I will reiterate the warning Damien Bird left at the beginning of his guide as well.

This is an undocumented method and should not be used in production flows, it works, but not all the time, and there is a limit on the number of flows you can perform per day. So, it’s important to keep your expectations in check.

Here are the links as they appear in Damien Bird’s post:

https://presence.teams.microsoft.com/v1/me/forceavailability
https://presence.teams.microsoft.com/v1/me/publishnote

In the USA?? Or using a US tenant? You might need to use https://noamdf.presence.teams.microsoft.com or https://presence.gcc.teams.microsoft.com or you will get a Status 301 error when the action runs.

Here’s what to do to set your Microsoft Teams status in Power Automate:

1. In Power Automate, click My flows from the navigation pane on the left.
2. Click New flow.
3. Here, you have three options: Automated cloud flow, Instant cloud flow, or Scheduled cloud flow. For this example, we will use Instant cloud flow.
microsoft teams status4. Create a Flow name and click an option under Choose how to trigger this flow. For this example, we will use Manually trigger a flow. Click Create when you are finished to confirm.Microsoft Teams status
5. After you click Create, you will find your new flow is created and it starts with a manually trigger, so you must pick the next step, click Next step.
microsoft teams status
6. Search for “SharePoint” in the search box and scroll and click Send an HTTP request to SharePoint. Microsoft Teams status

Set your Microsoft Teams status

1. In the next menu, you will need to complete the HTTP request to SharePoint. Your SharePoint request should look exactly like the image below.
Microsoft Teams status
You can change your “availability” status in the body of the flow to “Available”, “Busy”, “BeRightBack”, “DoNotDisturb”, or “Away”. I was unable to get the option for offline/offwork to function, so I can’t include it in this guide.
2. Click Save when finished.
3. Next, your flow is ready to go, so you need to test it. It is not only recommended that you test it, but it’s also required when you set up your first flow. Click Test.
Microsoft Teams status
4. At the next screen, you need to indicate how you want to test your flow, either Manually (you trigger it) or Automatically (based on a previous run of another flow). Select Manually, the only choice at first flow setup. Click Test to confirm.Microsoft Teams status
5. Depending on your permissions level, Power Automate may prompt you to sign into your Microsoft account to confirm your permissions to make the flow function. As indicated, I am ready to go because I already have the necessary permissions already as designated by the green check mark. Click Continue.

6. Finally, click Run flow to run the flow.

Once you click Run you will see a green check mark showing that your flow successfully started with a link to check the flow status on the Flow Runs Page. You can also check your Microsoft Teams status to see if it changed when you ran the flow.

Set your status message

To set your status message, you just need to create another Power Automate flow almost identical to the one above, except for a couple of changes. Here’s what your flow should look like.
MICROSOFT TEAMS STATUS

Create a custom Microsoft Teams status connector

While looking up content for this guide, I came across a really cool Spotify project by another Microsoft MVP, Loryan Strant. It takes a Spotify custom connector with a thorough guide created by That API Guy and updates their Microsoft Teams status to show what song and artist they are listening to on Spotify.

After following along with his guide, I found that another Microsoft MVP, Luise Freese provided a more efficient solution for the flow. So, my end result is a combination of both of their combined work combined with trial and error. Their guides were missing important explanations of dynamic values and expressions and what they do, but their guides are not meant for new Power Automate users either. After following both their guides, I created a Spotify custom connector with Microsoft Teams that aligns more with Freese’s solution, but if you have an even better solution, please share it.

If you are looking for an easier option, copy the code exactly as it appears below to either:
1. Set your Microsoft Teams status to Away

You can paste it straight into Power Automate by going to New step > My clipboard. Paste it directly to the clipboard when you set up your Power Automate account.myclipboard1If you have any questions or need any help setting up this flow, have advice, or can give me input to make a better flow, please reach out to me on Twitter.

How to remove Microsoft Teams Chat App in Windows 11 https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/how-to-remove-microsoft-teams-chat-app/ Wed, 09 Mar 2022 15:41:18 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=256752 Read more]]> You might already be using Microsoft Teams for work, but there’s also a consumer version of Microsoft Teams built into Windows 11. You’ll notice it in your Taskbar as a “Chat” app, but did you know you can remove it you don’t want it, or if you want to spare some space on your PC? It’s a relatively simple process, and today we’ll show you how.

A visit to the settings app

Teams Chat uninstall

All it takes to remove the Teams chap app on Windows 11 is to go to the settings app. You can do this by clicking the Windows Key and I on your keyboard. Then, from there, head to the sidebar and click on Apps. There will then be an additional link to Apps & features. Click this, and look for Microsoft Teams in the list.

You might see two versions of Microsoft Teams on the list. One is for work and school, and the other is the consumer version. The consumer version of Teams has a square icon with a blue background. The work and school version has no blue background and just the Teams logo. Make sure you uninstall the right one. You usually can tell, because the Chat app will have an install date further back in the past.

To uninstall, click the three downwards facing dots, and choose Uninstall. The chat app will then be removed from your PC!

How to reinstall the Teams Chat app

Teams chat reinstall

If you end up wanting to reinstall the Teams Chat app, then don’t worry. Removing it doesn’t mean you can’t install it again. All you need to do is visit Microsoft’s website. Then, choose the Download the free app button. Open the installer, run in, and you’ll be back and up and running with the Teams Chat app!
