4 reasons why Windows updates are necessary https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/why-windows-updates-are-necessary/ https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/why-windows-updates-are-necessary/#disqus_thread Wed, 31 May 2023 15:11:11 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=309268 Read more]]> Updating your software today is as ubiquitous as using some sort of tech to solve some specific problem of yours. In fact, it’s very rare to go without an update for any of your devices or apps for even a month.

Somewhere in the back of your mind, you might have all sorts of ideas about why you, too, should have regular Windows updates. Perhaps, it’s for security reasons. Or for fixing bugs, maybe. But how and why exactly, people generally don’t have any clear ideas about this.

Don’t worry, though, as we’ve rounded up all the reasons. So let’s jump in and examine why your Windows updates such a necessary part of your overall Windows experience.

1. Security

This is the most obvious one and one of the top reasons that pop up in mind when someone wonders why they should bother with Windows updated at all.

This is especially true in our information-rich, interconnected world, where cybercriminals all over the world are constantly out on the lookout for any system vulnerabilities in software. And, since Windows is the most popular operating system on the planet, it automatically becomes one of the primary targets for hackers.

So to sufficiently minimize these external threats, it’s therefore essential you have your Windows updated regularly.

2. Fix common bugs and problems

Nothing is perfect. Probably no other thing will drill this lesson into you faster than when you lose a significant amount of your work because of some technical glitch.

And glitches and random bugs have a long history with Windows. In fact, if you have been using the Windows operating system for a while now, you might have made your peace with random bugs and errors that are part of using it.

While updates are not the panacea for all your Windows errors, if you install regular patches for common fixes and bugs, then the number of errors you encounter can certainly be reduced.

So keep your Windows updated and keep the errors at bay.

3. Get new features

While Windows updates are majorly famous for fixing security and various bugs through their patches, what’s lesser known is their role in getting new features on your system.

For instance, with AI in the rage once again, Microsoft recently hinted at introducing a new smart feature for the Snap layout. While the exact details of these new updates are still unclear, what’s important is that Microsoft, like all companies, introduces various updates to their legacy software.

So having your Windows updated makes sure you are not left behind.

4. Improve Functionality and software and hardware Compatibility

Functionality in Windows, and your computers in general, refers to the quality or state of work performed. Basically, it means how well a machine does its job. So a good, functioning PC will always be a positive for your workflow.

Regular updates will help you improve this functionality by introducing system or software enhancements, which make your PC operate faster and more efficiently.

Similarly, application developers regularly update their tools for new features and security patches, which might require specific features from your Windows. Regular software ensures that your Windows can work well with these recent changes. Unsurprisingly, many Windows updates also include hardware updates for keeping up with any changes in new computer hardware.

Keeping your Windows updates regular

That’s about it, really. Keep your Windows adapted and make it protected against ever-present security threats, random bugs, performance issues, etc., and you will have smooth sailing in using the Windows operating system.

How to Fix ChatGPT Errors and Make It Work [Solved] https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/fix-chatgpt-not-working-error-high-demand/ https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/fix-chatgpt-not-working-error-high-demand/#disqus_thread Wed, 31 May 2023 12:51:29 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=309087 Read more]]> Have you ever been engrossed in a conversation with ChatGPT, only to be halted by a frustrating error? Don’t worry, you are not alone. As ChatGPT continues to gain popularity, the surge in user demand sometimes leads to limited access and delayed responses. But fear not. We will walk you through practical solutions to overcome the ChatGPT High Demand Error and ensure uninterrupted, seamless conversations.

By following these steps, you can navigate through the high demand and fully tap into the potential of this remarkable AI-powered language model. So, let’s dive in and discover how to fix the High Demand Error, enabling you to enjoy uninterrupted and engaging interactions with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT Errors and What They Mean

ChatGPT Error Code 429

When you send numerous requests to the server within a brief timeframe, ChatGPT may respond with an Error 429. This error is encountered when using the OpenAI API to access ChatGPT and signifies that the maximum allowable number of requests has been surpassed within the specified time. The purpose behind this limitation is to promote equitable usage, and thus ChatGPT employs Error 429 as a means to manage it.

There was an Error Generating a Response

When you encounter the “something went wrong” or “error generating a response” messages with ChatGPT, it means that ChatGPT couldn’t complete your request. This could be due to factors like high server load, internet connectivity problems, or incorrect user data. Fortunately, these errors are usually temporary glitches. To fix them, you can try refreshing the page or sending a new request.

ChatGPT Internal Server Error

This erros means that OpenAI is experiencing problems with ChatGPT’s servers. This indicates that the error is not caused by your device or network. Once OpenAI resolves the issue, ChatGPT should be back in operation. Therefore, if you receive an internal server error on ChatGPT, simply wait for some time and then attempt again.

Fix ChatGPT Errors and Not Working Issues

1. Reload the Page

You might be experiencing a ChatGPT High Demand error. The fastest way to fix that is by reloading your webpage on your phone or PC. You can keep trying a couple of times before moving to the next method.

2. Check If ChatGPT Is Down

To check if ChatGPT is currently experiencing any problems or downtime, you can follow these steps:

1. Go to the status.openai.com website. This site provides updates on the status of ChatGPT.

2. Look for the section related to chat.openai.com on the status page. Check if the status is marked as “Operational.” If it is, then ChatGPT is working fine.

OpenAI Status 3. If you see a “Major Outage” status, it means that ChatGPT is under heavy load and may not work properly. In this case, it is best to wait for some time and check the status again later.

4. And if you want to receive instant notifications about ChatGPT outages and service updates, you can click on “Subscribe to Updates” on the status.openai.com website and provide your phone number and email.

5. Another option is to visit downdetector.com and search for ChatGPT to see its current status.

By following these steps, you can easily find out if ChatGPT is currently down or experiencing any issues.

3. Get ChatGPT Plus Subscription

In situations where the ChatGPT servers are experiencing an outage or are dealing with a significant influx of traffic, you may come across a message stating that the service is currently at capacity.

If you heavily rely on ChatGPT, we recommend you get a ChatGPT Plus subscription, which costs $20 per month plus the local prevailing tax. By subscribing to ChatGPT Plus, you can enjoy uninterrupted access to the AI chatbot, ensuring a seamless experience even during periods of high demand or server issues. Now bear in mind that their latest ChatGPT model(which is ChatGPT4) will have on the number of prompts you can ask every three hours. They are saying that the limit will increase with time.

4. Clear ChatGPT Cookies

If you encounter error code 1020 while using ChatGPT, even though the service is operational and functioning correctly on other devices, it appears that you may need to follow a set of steps to resolve the problem. These instructions are also relevant for users experiencing login errors on ChatGPT.

This is how you can clear Cookies for ChatGPT on the computer. We are showing you the setting for Google Chrome, which is the most used browser. You can also clear cookies in Edge, Firefox, and Safari.

Bing Chat, developed by Microsoft, offers an AI-powered chatbot framework that enables developers to create intelligent chatbots with natural language understanding and context-aware responses.

Google Bard, on the other hand, is an experimental project by Google that focuses on generating creative and poetic responses to user prompts, adding an artistic flair to the conversation. JasperChat is an open-source conversational AI framework that leverages the Jasper speech recognition and synthesis system, allowing developers to build chatbots with voice-based interactions. These alternatives provide unique features and capabilities, offering diverse options for creating engaging and interactive conversational experiences.

How to disable Suggested actions in Windows 11 https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/disable-suggested-actions-in-windows-11/ https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/disable-suggested-actions-in-windows-11/#disqus_thread Mon, 29 May 2023 12:49:13 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=308989 Read more]]> Microsoft remains busy at work pushing updates to Windows 11 in a bid to enhance its user experience, ultimately promoting productivity. As is the case with the “Suggested actions” feature.

When you have the Suggested actions feature enabled on your device, an inline menu will pop up, through which you can schedule an event and even place a phone call every time you copy a date, time, or phone number to the clipboard.

For instance, when you copy a phone number to your clipboard, the feature will automatically suggest that you place a call using Microsoft Teams or any other app with calling support installed on your device.

The same also applies to copied dates, the flyout will suggest creating a calendar event using your default calendar app. Once you select the app, the event will automatically be created with all the required information filled in.

And while this is a neat feature that will help enhance your efficiency and effectiveness, there are some users who find it redundant and would prefer to have it disabled. There are some instances where you might just want to quickly copy a date or phone number and use it elsewhere without placing a call or scheduling an event.

Turn off Suggested actions in Windows 11

Here’s what you need to do to disable Suggested actions in Windows 11:

  1. Launch the Settings app and click on System on the left pane.
  2. Next, scroll down the right pane and select Clipboard.
  3. Finally, scroll down the window and click on the toggle switch next to the Suggested actions option to disable the feature.suggested actions button

From this point, you can proceed to restart your device and check whether the suggested actions have been disabled.

Note: This feature is only available to users running Windows 11 build 25115 and higher releases. Suggested actions is expected to ship with version 23H2 to general availability in the next couple of months.

Stay in your flow

Hopefully, this tip helped you get rid of those annoying flyouts that pop up each time you copy a date or phone number to your clipboard. Be sure to also check out our separate post that better defines the feature and how you can use it on your Windows PC.

This will be the second major feature drop that Microsoft is making this year. The company made the first drop earlier this year in February. Moment 3 is currently an optional update, Microsoft intends to bump everyone to the latest version of Windows 11, version 22H2 via the next Patch Tuesday update which is slated to start rolling out on June 13, 2023. And while you can opt to wait till Microsoft starts pushing this update to everyone, you can go right ahead and download it now.

Preliminary checks

The Moment 3 feature drop ships with major updates to the Widget board in Windows 11, the reintroduction of the second clock that most users appreciated. Additionally, the update is also expanding the Live Captions feature in Windows 11 accessibility to more users. Once this update ships, the feature will be available to ten additional languages across 21 regions.

Microsoft is also changing the Print key’s function, after an eternity of using it to quickly grab screenshots. It’ll now launch the Snipping Tool which also ships with a screen recording feature. However, you can revert back to the previous arrangement via the Settings app.

Before proceeding to download and install the Moment 3 update on your Windows PC to access all these features and more, you must first ensure that it meets the following requirements as highlighted by Microsoft:

Windows 11, version 22H2 is broadly available to all users with eligible devices who check for updates. Microsoft is delivering continuous innovation to Windows 11 more frequently. If you’re using Home or Pro consumer devices or non-managed business devices running Windows 11, version 22H2, you can get some of these newest experiences as soon as they’re ready for your device.

Now that you’ve already ascertained that your WIndows PC meets the minimum system requirements, you proceed to download the update. Here’s how:

  1. Click on the Start icon on the Taskbar, and select the Settings app.

Do more with the Moment 3 update in Windows 11

Be sure to catch up with our feature post to learn about everything new shipping with this new update and more. Admittedly, Microsoft is living up to its promises, as earlier indicated last year when it said it had big plans for Windows 11 in 2023.

As earlier explained, Microsoft highlighted its intentions to start shipping updates to Windows 11 version 22H2 more frequently. This is the company’s second feature drop this year. Windows 11 version 23H2 is already in the works and the company is getting ready to release it to broad availability later this year.

Here’s how to edit images directly within Microsoft Edge https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/edit-images-with-edge-built-in-editor/ https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/edit-images-with-edge-built-in-editor/#disqus_thread Mon, 22 May 2023 14:15:08 +0000 https://www.onmsft.com/?p=308065 Read more]]> While browsing through the web, you interact with a lot of images and videos. At times, you might even need to grab the images from a site or article. In most cases. these images might not meet your standards.

In turn, you end up downloading the image to your Windows PC and uploading it to an image editor for extensive edits. For most users, this is a long and cumbersome method that takes up a lot of time. This acts as a great impediment to the user’s productivity as it cripples effectiveness and efficiency.

But as it happens, Microsoft Edge ships with a built-in image editor feature. This means that users can easily edit images within the browser before downloading them and using them elsewhere.

The feature is designed to help users make light edits to images before downloading them. This helps users save time while simultaneously enhancing their productivity.

However, if you’re looking to make more extensive edits to the image, you’ll need to use tools like Microsoft PowerToys and the Snipping tool in Windows 11 which recently got a screen recording feature.

In this guide, we’ll show you how you can edit images within Microsoft Edge. Here’s what you need to do:

How to edit images using Microsoft Edge’s built-in editor

  1. Right-click on the image you want to edit within the Edge browser and select Edit Image.Microsoft Edge
  2. A new editing window will pop up featuring four tabs: Crop, Adjustment, Filter, and Markup. You can click on any tab depending on your editing needs.edit window in Edge

Important notes

In March, Microsoft debuted the Bing Image Creator powered by OpenAI’s DALL∙E model to further enhance the new Bing and Edge preview experience. Essentially, with the Bing Image Creator users can easily generate unique images using their own words.

When generating images using the tool, you’ll receive four 1024×1024 square images. At the moment, it’s not possible to specify the exact dimensions you’d like to generate the images in. As such, we’ll show you how to edit images to fit your desired dimensions and standards.

How to generate images using Bing Image Creator

According to Microsoft:

By typing in a description of an image, providing additional context like location or activity, and choosing an art style, Image Creator will generate an image from your own imagination. It’s like your creative copilot. Just type something like “draw an image” or “create an image” as a prompt in chat to get creating a visual for a newsletter to friends or as inspiration for redecorating your living room.

  1. Right-click on the image you’d like to edit and select the Edit Image option.
  2. A new edit window will pop-up with four tabs at the top. You can start off by clicking on the Crop tab.

The Crop tab comes with a variety of options. You can rotate the image 90 degrees or flip it horizontally or vertically. Additionally, you can use arrow keys to crop the image as displayed in the interface.

Microsoft Edge

What’s more, you can click on the Free button at the bottom to change the aspect ratio of your image. There’s a wide variety of options to select from: Square, Rectangle,16:9, and so on. There’s also a reset button at the top that allows you to retract and restore changes made to the image.

As for the Adjustment tab, it features two categories: Light and Color. Both categories feature a wide variety of options that you can choose from to enhance your image’s appearance.

Adjustment tab in Microosft Edge editor

The Filter tab on the other hand, also features a ton of cool filters that you can apply to your image to alter its shades and colors.

Filter tab in Microsoft Edge editor

And finally, the Markup tab allows you to scribble on the image. It features assorted flavors of pens with different colors. You can change the ink properties of the pen by clicking on it. There’s also an erase button at the bottom that removes the inscriptions using a single click.

Markup tab in Microsoft Edge editor

Once you’re done making edits, you can now save the image by clicking on the Save button at the top. You can either choose to copy the image to your clipboard or download it and save it in your files.

Quick image edits with Microsoft Edge

Understandably, the built-in image editor in Microsoft Edge is not as sophisticated or extensive when compared to other standalone apps. However, it will help you get the job done if you’re only looking to make minimal edits to the image and upload it elsewhere.

Not only does it save time, but it also enhances your productivity. Have you used Microsoft Edge’s built-in image editor to edit your images? Share your experience with us in the comments.
