Microsoft could be preparing to launch an ad-supported Game Pass tier

While Xbox Game Pass is already a pretty great value and the best gaming service right now bar none, it could be about to get even more affordable. That is, if Microsoft chooses to go forward with a cheaper, ad-supported Game Pass tier as some are expecting. As you may recall, we recently reported on Netflix making a similar move last month, as has Disney+.

The speculation arises from a recent survey Microsoft put to gamers querying whether they would find Game Pass with ads acceptable if the subscription fee were lower. An unsourced screenshot of the survey, in Spanish, can be seen via Reset Era.

Earlier this year, Microsoft rolled out a “Friends and Family” edition of Game Pass which allows for a single subscription to be shared among 5 people. It only launched in two countries, however (those being Ireland and Colombia), though it is expected to eventually expand to others.

If a lower-priced Game Pass ad tier does become a reality, it will likely be a popular move given the recent announcement that going forward into 2023 Microsoft’s first party games will retail for $70.
