Inside Gaming has reported that Disney not only wants to release more Star Wars video games in the near future but that the company intends to see as many as two titles based on the Sci-Fi franchise launch yearly.
While this may seem ambitious, there are actually quite a few Star Wars video games already in development for various platforms so this target doesn’t seem that unattainable.
The first two Star Wars games due for release (both in 2023) are Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, on Windows PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, and Star Wars: Hunters, a free-to-play multiplayer game on mobile and Nintendo Switch.
The other two confirmed video games are Star Wars: Eclipse and the Knights of the Old Republic remake, both not expected for at least a couple of years due to their scale and various behind-the-scenes development issues.
There are also several unannounced Star Wars titles currently in development at Respawn Entertainment, Skydance Media, and Ubisoft Massive which are likely a couple of years away from release. In addition to these, there’s frequently rumors of a Mandalorian video game that pop up every now and then plus a possible (based on actor sightings) spin-off of Star Wars Battlefront II featuring Iden Versio.
The most recent Star Wars video game release was LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga which has been very well received. The online roleplaying game, Star Wars: The Old Republic, also continues to get updates on a frequent basis and fresh Star Wars content seems to be added to Fortnite at least once a year now with Luke Skywalker likely coming to the Battle Royale island in the next month or so.
It’s also worth mentioning that Star Wars Battlefront II, despite no longer receiving content updates, is still frequently very active on both Xbox and Windows PC.
